50 mm Of Rain In One Hour In Sarnia

Environment Canada has ended a severe thunderstorm watch for Sarnia-Lambton.

The weather agency issued the watch on Tuesday in advance of thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and torrential rain.

The Sarnia area recorded heavy rain early in the morning as an intense thunderstorm moved through the area just before 4am.

"One particularly intense thunderstorm went right over the Sarnia area and it gave the airport approximately 50 mm (2 inches) in just over an hour's period of time," says Meteorologist Mark Schuster. "Other areas have seen a considerable amount of rain as well, but it looks like the Sarnia area got particularly hard hit."
