UPDATE: Ottawa man killed in Michigan plane crash identified

The St. Clair County sheriff's office has identified an Ottawa pilot who died when his small aircraft crashed near Port Huron overnight.

The sheriff's office said 51-year-old Stephan Maisonneuve was the only person on board and was pronounced dead at the scene Thursday morning.

Authorities started looking for the plane around midnight after deputies were told that it was overdue at the airport in Kimball Township, about 80 kilometres northeast of Detroit.

They found the wreckage of a 1981 Cessna 340 twin-engine next to softball fields about a quarter of a mile west of one of the airport's runways.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
