UPDATE: Sarnia's Terry Fox Run held Sunday

The 38th annual Terry Fox Run in support of cancer research was held on Sunday at Sarnia's Canatara Park.

The event brought in $57,512 last year, and organizers were hoping to raise at least $71,594 this year, which is a dollar for every Sarnia resident.

Organizer Laurie Rome said Terry Fox is a national hero.

"What he did took so much courage and that's what it says on the back of this year's shirt, it just says 'courage'," said Rome. "It took a lot of work and a lot of heart. Everybody's got their reasons for being there. I don't think there are too many people who don't know of someone either in their family or friends that haven't been touched by cancer. That's why we keep doing it."

The annual event in Alvinston Sunday was a huge success. About 82 people raised $45,487.75, about $12,000 more than last year.
