No concerns with Sarnia's emergency sirens

Sarnia's Emergency Planner Cal Gardner said there are no concerns about the reliability of our emergency alert siren system.

Some American systems, including one in Genesee County, Michigan were believed to have been activated by hackers.

"We were advised by the company that we deal with that those other sirens were a different system from a different company," said Gardner. "We have encryption on this system. The chances of it being compromised are very slim."

He said upgrades continue on the original system as some of the sirens went in in 2002. The upgrades on the software, Gardner hopes, wrap up by year's end.
