New Point Edward Holiday Inn moving forward

It's full steam ahead for a new Express Holiday Inn on Venetian Boulevard in Point Edward.

Mayor Bev Hand said council has approved a site plan agreement for the six-storey, $20 million hotel to be built between the Hampton Inn by Hilton and the Best Western Plus Guildwood Inn.

"There is a slight adjustment from original discussions," said Hand. "It's 115 rooms, rather than 110 and they're ready to go forward, it will be eight to ten months in building."

The Vrancor Group says the new hotel will employ 22 people.

Mayor Hand said it will benefit the entire area.

"Obviously they've done studies and feel that there's a need for an additional hotel, so that's good for all of us," she said.

Toronto-based Sunray Group of Hotels, which specializes in hospitality and development, has purchased the existing Holiday Inn. Sunray is known for partnering with prominent hotel brands such as Marriott, Radisson and Choice Hotels.
