Sarnia building pace edges ahead of 2017

Two large building permits last month pushed Sarnia's construction pace ahead of last year.

A $5.6 million permit was issued by city hall for a four-storey apartment building at 241 Wellington St. Vision Nursing and Rest Home is expanding.

There was also a $3 million partial permit for foundation work at the site of a new residential high-rise at the former Sarnia Gazette property at 275 Front St. N.

The 58 permits issued in September total $16.6 million, and lift the year-to-date total to $70 million, with one quarter to go.

At this time last year, the total was $68.5 million.

Only six permits for single-family homes were issued in September for a total of 71 so far this year, compared to 82 last year.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
