Arson suspected in Christina Street fire

Arson is the suspected cause of a fire at an abandoned house on Christina Street South Saturday evening.

Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus said the building is in the same block, between Devine Street and Talfourd Street, where two firefighters were hurt in early January battling a blaze in another empty house.

"We highly suspect that this was intentionally set. There was no accidental causes inside the home, nobody was living there, the hydro was cut off, and the gas was shut off," said Bus. "I found a couple of different spots where the fire may have started, so we're confident it was intentionally set."

Bus said an adjacent occupied home had some siding and hydro stack damage.
