Steelheads stop Sting 6-2

Cole Carter scored a hat trick as the Mississauga Steelheads beat the Sarnia Sting 6-2 Sunday at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

Sarnia is in third place in the OHL West Division standings with nine points.

Mississauga wasted no time building up a big lead, scoring four unanswered goals to start off the opening period.  Thomas Harley opened the scoring at 3:28 into the game. Owen Tippett made the score 2-0 nearer the midway point of the frame, followed by Carter's first goal and the third score of the season for Filip Reisnecker. The Sting finally got on the board before the intermission when Brayden Guy scored his fourth goal of the year.

In the second period, Carter scored his second goal when he puck the puck in short-handed at 5:25. That was enough for the Sting to pull Blair Coffin from goal for Aidan Hughes. Sean Josling put up Sarnia's second goal of the game, but Carter responded soon after to complete his hat trick.

There was no scoring in the third period, and each team had eight shots on goal.

Coffin and Hughes combined for 24 saves out of 30 attempts in goal for the Sting. Joe Ranger had 22 saves for the Steelheads.

The Sting continue their five-game homestand on Friday night when they host the Owen Sound Attack.
