UPDATE: Stolen vehicle flips onto roof during crash

A St. Clair Township man is facing charges after a rollover crash involving a stolen vehicle caused significant damage in Point Edward.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on Thursday at around 9:25 a.m. officers responded to Alexandra Avenue to investigate a stolen vehicle, but when officers attempted to stop it, the driver took off and refused to stop for police.

Shortly before 10 a.m., the vehicle was involved in a rollover crash at the intersection of Christina Street and Michigan Avenue. The vehicle destroyed a traffic light standard and control box during the collision before it came to a rest on its roof.

Witnesses told police that the driver ran from the scene.

Following a search, 28-year-old Bradley Allan Bacon of St. Clair Township was arrested. He has been charged with the possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while pursued by police, disobeying a stop sign, using unauthorized licence plates and failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

Bacon was taken to hospital for minor injuries before being taken into police custody. He will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sarnia for a bail hearing on Friday.
