More craft beer plans brewing in city

Sarnia could soon be home to another craft brewery, pending the rezoning of a vacant building on Exmouth Street.

The Imperial City Brew House wants to take over the space at 1330 Exmouth St., previously occupied by Price Chopper, the LCBO, and Moore's Clothing.

It would feature a tap room, retail area, and manufacturing space.

City Planner Jordan Fohkens said the company has submitted noise and odour studies from a consultant.

"Those are usually the major land use issues that we have with these breweries, the noises and the odours associated with them," said Fohkens. "In this case, everything is going to be inside. All of the storage would be inside, all of the brewing and everything would be inside of course. There will be no negative impact by the sounds of it, according to the consultant, on the surrounding area."

The property still requires site-specific rezoning to permit a craft brewery in a commercial area.

There's a public meeting on the proposed brewery at Sarnia City Hall on Monday, December 17 at 4 p.m.
