Third period comeback lifts Legionnaires to win

The Sarnia Legionnaires (10-7-0-2) scored three third period goals as they defeated the Chatham Maroons (12-5-0-2) 4-2 in GOJHL hockey action Thursday at the Brock Street Barn.

Legionnaires Captain Alec DeKoning opened the scoring 1:09 into the first period after being sent in on a breakaway by Ethan Allair. It was DeKoning's team-leading 17th goal of the season in 18 games. Dane Johnstone tied the contest 1-1 just three minutes later with his ninth of the year.

After a scoreless second period, Kyle Fisher put Chatham on top 2-1 with a powerplay goal just 19 seconds into the third frame.

The Legionnaires stormed back with three goals in a 10-minute span off the sticks of Logan Gardiner, Joseph Ferrera, and Jon Sanderson. Aaron Jamieson had two assists in the game.

Sarnia capitalized on one of five powerplay chances and killed off one of two penalties against.

Legionnaires goalie Jakob Knowles made 37 saves on 39 shots, while Chatham's Adam Harris turned aside 36 of 40 Sarnia shots.

The Legionnaires sit fifth in the GOJHL's Western Conference with 22 points, just four back of third place Chatham.
