Call for Christmas Kettle Campaign volunteers

The Salvation Army's annual Christmas Kettle Campaign is lagging behind last year's pace, and the organization is appealing for volunteers to help out.

They're sitting at just over $72,000 of their $135,000 goal, and remain confident they can reach their target with some assistance.

Captain Nancy Braye said there are over 44 shifts left to fill in Sarnia and Corunna between now and Christmas Eve.

She said volunteers would stand and collect donations for two hours at a time.

"Our kettle funds that are received every Christmas season go to support our community and family services all throughout the year," said Braye. "They support our food bank in particular. The Salvation Army has to purchase the vast majority of food that we distribute through our food bank. Our food bank is open all year round and we serve about 800 people every month."

To volunteer, call or text Kettle Coordinator Brian Gleadall at 519-402-6867.

The last day of the campaign is December 22.
