Sting's Perreault leads OHL rookies at break

The Sarnia Sting now have a couple of weeks off for the holiday break.

Sarnia is coming off a weekend that saw them beat the Erie Otters 10-4 and lose to the Saginaw Spirit 7-3.

Overall, Sarnia is sixth in the OHL's Western Conference with a record of 16-15-2-2 and 36 points. They've scored a league-best 151 goals but have given up the second most at 152.

Sting rookie Jacob Perreault leads all first-year players with 30 points in 30 games, including 17 goals, just one up on Sudbury's Quinton Byfield.

Hugo Leufvenius, who is with team Sweden camp for the World Juniors, has a team-best 21 goals and 42 points. Adam Ruzicka is trying to make the Slovakian squad.

Meanwhile, a strong first half has led to overage defenceman Mitch Eliot signing a three-year entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks. The 20-year-old has seven goals and 21 assists in 34 games this year.

The Sting's next game is coming up on December 28 at home to Owen Sound.
