UPDATE: Suspect identified in Courtright standoff

Lambton OPP have released the name of a man who is facing several charges following a standoff in Courtright last Saturday.

Police responded to a residence on Councillors Street after receiving information that a man inside the home had allegedly used a firearm in a careless manner.

Members of the OPP West Region Tactics & Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), OPP Canine and Crisis Negotiators all responded.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning a man was taken into police custody without incident.

William Stevens, 32, of St. Clair Township is facing charges including possessing a firearm and ammunition while prohibited, pointing a firearm, careless use of a firearm, and possession of methamphetamine.

He remains in custody and will have a video court appearance on December 20.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
