UPDATE: Unattended propane heater sets shed on fire

The occupant of a home on Murphy Road sustained minor burns to his forehead when he opened the door of a burning shed in the backyard Tuesday morning.

Fire Life Safety Educator Mike Otis said at about 9 a.m. crews responded to a report heavy smoke and flames coming from a home just north of Wellington Street.

He said a small propane heater had been left unattended in a plastic shed.

"Sarnia Fire Rescue would like to remind the public that space heaters need to be at least one metre or three feet from any combustibles. Do not leave them unattended and do not use extension cords with space heaters," said Otis.

Damage is estimated at $15,000.

Otis said another shed, a neighbouring garage, and Bell and Cogeco cables were also damaged in the blaze.
