High number of crashes on slick roads

Sarnia police were kept busy with several collisions Wednesday evening.

There were about a dozen minor incidents reported, including a five-vehicle collision at Exmouth Street and Willowdale Crescent.

Cst. Nelson Amaral said the road conditions were a primary factor in the crashes.

"It's not uncommon for this to happen on the first slippery day of the year," said Amaral. "We're asking drivers to significantly reduce their speed when roads are iced over and always drive according to weather and road conditions, not according to the posted speed limits."

Lambton OPP were also kept busy with several incidents along Highway 402 and county roads. There were 25 collisions in total between 4 p.m and 11 p.m.

Cst. Chris Doupe said most of the collisions were single vehicles sliding into the ditch and median. No serious injuries were reported.
