Sting knocked by Otters 4-3 in overtime

Kyle Maksimovich scored twice, including the overtime winner, as the Sarnia Sting lost to the Erie Otters 4-3 on the road Sunday night.

The Sting pick up a point for the overtime loss, at 43, but still sit in third place in the OHL West Division.

Erie started things off with Danial Singer's 11th goal of the year, at 8:24 of the opening period. Sarnia tied the game with a Hugo Leufvenius lamplighter just over two minutes later, then took a first-intermission lead.

The Otters tied the game at two-all in the middle frame with a penalty shot by Maksimovich, his 22nd goal of the season and his first of the game.

Franco Sproviero's goal in the third period helped Sarnia regain the lead, but overtime was forced when Jamie Drysdale scored on the power play for the Otters. Maksimovich's game-winner was scored at 4:59 of the extra period.

Ethan Langevin took the defeat in goal for the Sting, stopping 30 out of 34 shots. Daniel Murphy also had 30 saves backstopping the Otters.

The Sting travel to Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday night.
