Suspected purse snatcher in Sarnia

A social media post is circulating warning of an attempted purse snatching in Sarnia.

According to the Facebook post, a woman was sitting in her vehicle in a grocery store parking lot when she was approached by a man asking if she was a certain person.

The post also said a second male attempted to open the passenger door to take the woman's purse. At that moment the woman sounded the car horn and the men took off in what's described as a white Toyota Corolla.

Sarnia Cst. John Sottosanti said they've received calls about the post, but at this time no formal complaint has been made to police.

"In this matter, according to the information, this female was already in her vehicle and rolled down the window to attempt to speak to the person," said Sottosanti. "We recommended that you're always aware of your surroundings and again if something of this nature were to happen, according to the information we received , sounding your car horn and drawing attention to yourself is actually a very good idea."

Cst. Sottosanti said anyone who may have witnessed this incident or experienced a similar incident to contact Det. Sam Sulaiman at 519-344-8861 ext 6132 or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
