2018 ends on a high building note

It was a good year for housing starts in Sarnia.

Canada Mortgage and Housing says there were 10 starts in the last month of the year, down from 14 in December, 2017.

But, CMHC Analyst Andrew Scott said overall 2018 ended on the plus side.

"If we look overall in 2018 we had 272 starts total, which was well above the five year average that we've seen," said Scott.

In 2017, there was a total of 229 starts.

The numbers include Sarnia, St. Clair Township and Point Edward.

Nationally, the number of housing starts fell in December compared to the month before, but were still above analysts expectations.
