Sarnia teacher sentenced to 14 months behind bars

A former Sarnia teacher who admitted to having sex with a male student will spend 14 months in jail.

Melissa Lefebvre was sentenced by Justice Mark Hornblower in Sarnia court Thursday morning.

Lefebvre pleaded guilty in July to touching the student for sexual purposes, while in a position of authority at Northern Collegiate Institute and Vocational School.

The 38-year-old was also sentenced to two-year probation following her jail time and will be on the Ontario Sex Offender Registry for 20 years.

Court heard previously that the year-long relationship between the teacher and student begin in 2016 when he was 16-years-old.

There were about 20 sexual encounters between the two, which included oral sex and intercourse.

The Crown was seeking an 18-month jail sentence.
