Petrolia votes yes to retail pot sales

Petrolia Town Council has opted in to allow retail cannabis sales in the municipality.

Council voted last evening to join other municipalities including Sarnia and Dawn-Euphemia to allow storefront sales, after gathering input from the community.

A recent survey in the town showed nearly 69 per cent of respondents were in favour of retail cannabis sales, 31 per cent were opposed.

Over 1,000 residents responded to the online survey, 63 per cent of those were women.

The first 25 licenses in Ontario were determined by a lottery on Friday.

Municipalities are required to make a decision by January 22 to be eligible to operate a store in the community.
