Joint investigation leads to prohibited weapon seizure

A joint investigation by area law enforcement agencies has resulted in the seizure of a prohibited weapon in Sarnia.

The ongoing investigation led the OPP Lambton Major Crime Unit, the street crimes unit, Sarnia police and the Canada Border Services Agency to a Mitton Street address.

Police said a search warrant was executed and an unspecified suspected prohibited weapon was seized, ensuring no threat to public safety.

A 60-year-old Sarnia man is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, importing a prohibited weapon, and possessing a prohibited weapon contrary to court order.

The accused, who has not been identified, is to appear in Sarnia court for a bail hearing January 18.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
