Sting edge visiting Otters in important conference match-up

The Sarnia Sting picked up their first win of 2019 with a 3-2 victory over the visiting Erie Otters.

Calvin Martin (10) opened the scoring with a short-handed goal at 14:55 of the first period.

Nine minutes into the second period the Sting increased their lead with Colton Kammerers' second goal of the season on the power play.

Ryan Martin tallied for the Otters at 13:55 of the second but Kammerer got that goal back for the Sting with his second goal of the game less than two minutes later.

Erie's Gera Poddubni completed the scoring at 12:30 of the third period.

Cameron Lamour stopped 26 shots for his first win as a member of the Sting while Cole Ceci made 31 saves for Erie.

The game was played before an enthusiastic Silver Stick crowd of 4270 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

With the win, Sarnia (19-19-5-2) remained in sixth place in the OHL Western Conference, and extended its lead over the ninth place Otters to seven points.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
