Two paramedics commended for helping officer

Two Lambton EMS paramedics are being honoured for helping a Sarnia police officer arrest a violent suspect in November.

Blake Smith and Mark Duffy received commendation awards during a recent Sarnia Police Service board meeting.

Police responded to a local homeless shelter around 4 a.m. on Sunday, November 4 for a report of a vicious, unprovoked attack.

An officer located a suspect at a Maria Street home several hours later. The man allegedly became combative and started fighting with the officer.

The paramedics arrived on scene and helped the officer arrest the suspect, and no serious injuries were reported.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
