Winning tickets a loss for alleged thief

Sarnia police have arrested a 20-year-old man after he allegedly got a friend to try to cash in stolen scratch lottery tickets.

After buying tickets at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday from a gas bar on Indian Road, police allege the suspect returned at 6:40 p.m. and ran out the door with number of tickets without paying.

Police said the suspect met up with a friend and asked him to cash in the winning tickets that had been stolen.

The friend was initially arrested but was unconditionally released later.

Further investigation led officers to a Devine Street home where the suspect was arrested.

He was being held pending a bail hearing on charges of theft under $5,000 and failing to comply with probation.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
