Crews tackle structure fire in extreme cold

Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services responded to a structure fire on the coldest last day of January in nearly 50 years.

Crews were called to a home on Tashmoo Avenue early Thursday afternoon.

Smoke could be seen coming from the house.

No injuries were reported.

The cause was under investigation and no damage estimate was available.

The mercury at Chris Hadfield Airport dropped to -24.4 C by 8 a.m. Thursday, shattering the previous record low for January 31 in Sarnia of -20.6 C, set in 1971.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
