Drugs, weapons seized from Russell Street home

Nearly $14,000 worth of drugs and various weapons were seized by Sarnia police at a Russell Street home, south of Wellington Street, Thursday night.

Members of the Vice Unit investigating suspects believed to be trafficking powdered fentanyl, executed a search warrant at 7:20 p.m.

Cst. John Sottosanti said officers located a suspect inside the home, and seized various illegal substances including cocaine, powdered fentanyl, cannabis marijuana and crystal methamphetamine worth a total of $13,818.

"Also of concern, officers located two pairs of brass knuckles, shotgun shells, various knives, some of which were 'flick knives', replica BB gun handguns, a rifle and various calibres of ammunition," said Sottosanti.

Cst. Sottosanti said Deanis John Smith, 25, was arrested and charged with four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling, five counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon and five counts of breaching his probation.

Police say a warrant was being sought on similar charges for Dallas Alexander Smith, 23, the brother of the accused.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
