Elderly man dies after being struck by vehicle

An 86-year-old Sarnia man has succumbed to his injuries in hospital after being struck by a vehicle in the city earlier this week.

The Sarnia Police Service said on Monday shortly before 6:50 p.m., Andre Verstaen was hit by a vehicle at Confederation Line and Waterworks Road.  The driver involved in the collision stopped at the scene and attempted to help the man before calling 911.

Verstaen was rushed to hospital and later transferred to London Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries. He died in hospital on Wednesday as a result of his injuries.

It is unknown if any charges will be laid as a result of the collision.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Constable Sam Sulaiman at 519-344-8861 ext. 6132.
