Quilters make heartwarming Valentine for palliative care

A group of Sarnia quilters spread some Valentine's Day love to patients at Bluewater Health Thursday.

The Sarnia Quilters Guild donated a dozen quilts to the hospital's palliative care unit.

Health Foundation Executive Director Kathy Alexander said the donations were met with a lot of smiling faces.

"The families and the patients were just thrilled," she said. "I actually spoke with some of the nurses in palliative care and they shared that they tried to give a quilt to every single palliative care patient that comes into our organization, and that every single time they are met with such a wonderful response and reaction."

Alexander said it can take around 40 hours to complete a handmade lap quilt.

She said the Quilters Guild and other quilting groups in Sarnia-Lambton have made similar donations to the hospital in the past.
