Potentially damaging winds are in the Sarnia-Lambton forecast for Sunday.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Friday morning.
Meteorologist Rob Kuhn said a weather system is developing in the Southern Plains States.
"This thing is going to race up toward the Great Lakes and with this sort of track, southern Ontario is going to be on the warm and windy side and it's going to be quite an intense late winter storm," said Kuhn. "There is an increasing likelihood of very strong winds on Sunday.
Kuhn said the winds are expected to pick up Sunday afternoon with some areas near the Great Lakes getting gusts of 90 kilometres per hour to 110 kilometres per hour.
"There's the typical threat to having some damage to buildings such as roof shingles, windows may be damaged, power outages may occur," he said.
Flurries and blowing snow will develop Sunday afternoon with the passage of a sharp cold front.
Two to five centimetres of accumulation is possible by Monday morning with the strong winds causing whiteout conditions at times Sunday night.
