New subdivision on old hospital lands gets support

Sarnia council has approved a draft subdivision plan for the former Sarnia General Hospital site on Mitton Street.

GFive Inc. is planning to build 11 single family residential dwelling lots on the north block of the site fronting on to Essex Street.

Two commercial blocks are planned for the property fronting onto Mitton Street.

The combined sewer on Essex Street will be separated between Mitton Street North and Mackenzie Street North in order to service the proposed lots and existing properties.

Council accepted a nearly $900,000 tender from Van Bree Drainage and Bulldozing for the reconstruction Monday.

Part of that bill will be paid by GFive.

The final bricks of the old hospital came down in November.

Demolition and abatement took 14 months to complete.
