Legionnaires eliminated from GOJHL playoffs

The Sarnia Legionnaires' season came to an end Wednesday night with a 4-2 loss to the LaSalle Vipers in GOJHL playoff action.

The win gave the Vipers a 4-0 series sweep in the opening round.

LaSalle got off to a strong start with a pair of first period goals off the sticks of Aaron Shaw and Brett Vorshuk.

Nolan DeGurse made it a 2-1 contest with a goal just 37 seconds into the third. The Vipers came back with a goal of their own to pull ahead 3-1.

Blake Butler made it interesting, scoring with just 1:36 remaining but the Vipers scored an empty-netter 11 seconds later to seal the 4-2 win.

Legionnaires goalie Nolan DeKoning made 29 saves on 32 shots, while Jackson Bernard stopped 23 of 25 Sarnia shots.

Sarnia was short-handed for much of the postseason.

Key players including Cameron Ware, Logan Gardner, Jon Sanderson, and Matt Stoia were all out with injuries.

Alec DeKoning, Isaac McLean, Ethan Dupont, and Max Daerendinger will all be too old to return to the Legionnaires next season.
