Marinaro and Moore-Towers finish as top canucks at worlds

Sarnia's Michael Marinaro and partner Kirsten Moore-Towers finished as the top Canadian pair at the 2019 World Figure Skating Championships in Saitama, Japan.

The two finished seventh overall in the pairs event with a total score of 200.02 points. Marinaro and Towers had a score of 73.08 after Wednesday's short program, and scored 126.94 points in Thursday's free skate event.

Chinese skaters Sui Wenjing and Han Cong won the gold medal with 234.84 points, Russian skaters Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov scored 228.47 for the silver, and a second Russian team, Natalia Zabiiako and Alexander Enbert, won the bronze with a score of 217.98.

Fellow Canadians Evelyn Walsh of London and Trennt Michaud of Trenton placed 12th with a total score of 174.40.

This marks second straight year Marinaro and Moore-Towers finished as the top Canucks at the worlds. In 2018, the pair placed sixth in Milan, Italy with a total score of 204.33.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
