Alvinston area structure fire not believed to be suspicious

Damage is estimated at $15,000 following a garage fire near Alvinston Friday night.

Brooke's Alvinston and Inwood stations, Dawn-Euphemia firefighters, OPP and Lambton EMS responded at around 8 p.m. to Downie Road.

Brooke Fire Rescue Chief Jeff McArthur said an investigation is underway but the cause is not believed to be suspicious.

"Brooke Fire Rescue crews arrived to a fully involved garage fire that spread to a vehicle parked nearby," he said. "Firefighters undertook defensive operations to protect the nearby house, which was not damaged, but the garage was a full loss."

McArthur said the improper use of extension cords is a possible cause they're looking into.

No injuries were reported.
