Vacant Christina Street building being redeveloped as medical facility

New life is being breathed into a building that was once a popular Sarnia bar.

Work is underway to transform the former Woody's Beach Bar at 494 Christina Street North into a five-unit medical office.

Maaten Construction is undertaking the work after Sarnia Medical Group was issued a $1 million building permit.

Sarnia Chief Building Official Ken Barros said it's encouraging to see development near the downtown core.

"Anytime someone is repurposing a vacant building, as opposed to having to redevelop new sites, it's always nice especially in the downtown core," he said.

It's not known when the offices will be ready for occupancy but Barros said the city is monitoring the progress.

Woody's Beach Bar closed its doors over 10 years ago and the building has been vacant ever since.
