Bluewater Health 'Sunshine List' nearly doubles in 2018

The number of Bluewater Health employees making $100,000 or more in 2018 was nearly double the number in 2017.

The hospital's so-called "Sunshine List" for last year has 118 names on it, compared to 65 in 2017.

President and CEO Mike Lapaine earned $322,000 while Chief Nursing Executive Shannon Landry was paid $184,000, and operational vice presidents Samer Abou-Sweid and Laura Zimmer were paid $182,000.

Other notables include Integrated Vice-President of Mental Health and Addiction Services Paula Reaume-Zimmer at $175,000, and Chief of Communication and Public Affairs Julia Oosterman at $152,000.

Oosterman said over half of the employees on the 2018 list were front line nurses.

"We had overtime hours driven up by an unanticipated influx of patients, and as a result, we went through a big hiring phase," said Oosterman. "Until we were at the full complement, that required our staff to pick up additional overtime."

The County of Lambton's top salaries in 2018 include Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade at $294,000, CAO Ron Van Horne at $209,000, and Finance, Facilities and Court Services General Manager John Innes at $191,000.

Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) CEO Ralph Ganter made almost $255,000 in 2018, while the LHIN's former CEO Gary Switzer was paid almost $290,000, despite being terminated in May 2016.

Lambton College President Judith Morris was paid $273,000 last year.

Public salaries of $100,000 or more have been disclosed yearly since 1996 under the Public Sector Salary Disclosure Act.
