More emergency shoreline repair at Bright's Grove

The City of Sarnia has completed emergency shoreline repairs along the former Old Lakeshore Road allowance in Bright's Grove.

Sarnia Director of Engineering Mike Berkvens said high winds on March 22, further eroded about 40 feet of shoreline in the area of 2229 Lakeshore Road, fronting the Jamieson Farm, adjacent to the Cull Drain.

"The breakwall actually failed last fall, but with the ice build up over the winter it was protected," said Berkvens. "With the spring thaw and high winds recently, the breakwall botched out and the material behind the breakwall eroded. So, there needed to be some emergency repairs to fix that shoreline."

He said Van Bree Drainage and Bulldozing installed armour stone Saturday.

Berkvens said the repairs, which cost $30,000, are only temporary, but the armour stone can be reused once a permanent repair is made.
