Lambton College's new health centre played a key role in the school's annual mass casualty simulation Thursday.
The scenario was the same as other years, a Zamboni driver hitting a natural gas line inside Progressive Auto Sales Arena, but the follow-up was different.
Lambton EMS Supervisor of Education and Professional Standards Tim McIntyre said victims were transported right to the NOVA Chemicals Health and Research Centre, which has a paramedic lab and nursing lab with 42 ward beds and two intensive care units.
"We're utilizing their beds to show realism," said McIntyre. "They can do their transfers of patient care over to beds and then patient transfers."
Lambton College paramedic and fire students participated.
Great Lakes Secondary School drama students played victims requiring various degrees of care.
