A murder charge has been laid following a violent altercation between two men on Maxwell Street Wednesday afternoon.

Sarnia police said at about 4 p.m., officers and Lambton paramedics were dispatched to Maxwell Street near St. Vincent Street.
A 26-year-old man, with critical injuries, was found lying on the ground outside a residence.
Cst. John Sottosanti said the man was rushed to Bluewater Health and then transferred to London's Health Sciences Centre where he died just after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday.
"A second male, 30 years of age, had also sustained injuries that were non-life threatening in nature but required medical attention," said Sottosanti. "This 30-year-old male was arrested at the scene and then transported to Bluewater Health. Once the male received medical attention he was transported to the Sarnia police station as the investigation continued by the Sarnia Police Service's Criminal Investigation Division."
Matthew Gerard Theriault of Sarnia is charged with second degree murder. He remained in custody on Thursday awaiting a bail hearing.
Police have not said whether any weapons were involved.
The crime scene on Maxwell Street has been secured and the road is closed from St. Vincent Street to Cotterbury Street as the investigation continues.
This is the city's first homicide of 2019.
