Murder suspect remanded in custody again

A 30-year-old Sarnia man, charged in the city's first murder since 2016, has been remanded in custody again until next week.

Matthew Gerard Theriault appeared briefly by video at Sarnia courthouse Thursday morning.

Dressed in orange prison clothes, with an arm in a cast, Theriault looked on as his case was put over to May 2 for disclosure and to confirm legal aid.

He's charged with second degree murder in the death of Jesse Mowat-Caudle.

The 26-year-old died in London hospital early last Thursday morning after a violent altercation between two men Wednesday afternoon on Maxwell Street near St. Vincent Street.

Caudle was found lying on the ground with critical injuries outside a residence.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
