Facelift planned for Monk Street Park

Efforts are underway to revitalize Point Edward's Monk Street Park.

The village's proposal includes converting the tennis court into two pickleball courts, adding an area for basketball and ball hockey, and putting in a playground and exercise equipment.

Village CAO Jim Burns said the goal is to make the park more inclusive.

"The tennis courts certainly need to be re-done," said Burns. "I don't know how many years it's been since they've had any attention but there's no question that the tennis courts themselves are deteriorating. The thought was that we could make some improvements to the park to make it more of a family atmosphere."

Burns said feedback at Tuesday's public meeting included moving the location of the playground, and concerns over accessible parking.

Comments will be brought to council for final decisions.

The upgrades are expected to cost around $250,000, with tenders closing on May 9.
