Sarnia police were "en garde" earlier this week when dealing with a man wielding a sword on his front lawn.
Officers responded to the area of Cameron Street and Forsyth Street South at around 3 p.m. Monday.
Cst. John Sottosanti said police were quickly able to defuse the situation, and seize the sword.
"After further discussion with the male we realized he wasn't a threat to anybody. He was in the area of his front yard practicing it, so he was spoken to about his behaviour that it incites fear, and that's how it was resolved," said Sottosanti. "It was a bit scary obviously for people. The blade of the sword alone was over four feet long, and the rest of it made it five feet long."
No charges were laid and no injuries were reported.
Cst. Sottosanti reminds the public that if you're going to practice your sword swinging skills, don't do it on your front lawn.
"It's not a firearm or anything like that where you can't carry it all, so if he hadn't unsheathed it, and started swinging it around, then there would be no fear incited in the public, so that's what we reacted to in this case," said Sottosanti. "Depending on his well-being, and the intent behind his behaviour, that would've determined our course of action. So say if he was doing it in a threatening manner to harm someone, then obviously we'd be looking at weapons dangerous charges and such."
Sottosanti said police returned the sword to the man shortly after the incident.
