Seniors flock to dock despite weather

The threat of rain didn't put a damper on attendance at the 41st annual seniors cruise Monday morning.

Lambton Elderly Outreach CEO Bill Yurchuk expected as many as 2,500 seniors would make their way down to the Front St. dock to enjoy a free ride aboard the Duc D'Orleans, some food and live music.

In fact, Yurchuk thought the attendance in the morning was up from last year.

"It's nice and overcast, not too bright from the sun," said Yurchuk.

He said there was shelter at the dock and the boat was covered in the event of rain.

Cruises will continue, rain or shine, as long as there are people waiting to board and there's no severe weather.

The annual seniors' cruise was launched in 1978 by longtime CHOK Hotline host, the late Peter Henderson.

Lambton Elderly Outreach took over the organization of it last year, with Steeves and Rozema as one of the major sponsors, providing the lunch.
