Man arrested after homeowner threatened with meat cleaver

Sarnia police have made an arrest after a homeowner was threatened by a man wielding a meat cleaver.

Police said at about 5 a.m. on Monday, a resident in the 200 block of North Brock Street saw a man trying to break into his vehicle parked in the driveway.

After giving up his chase of the intruder, the homeowner returned to his house and was approached by another man who police said was the lookout for the attempted car thief who got away.  Police said the man, holding a meat cleaver over his head, approached the resident in a threatening manner.

Fortunately, a neighbour had witnessed what was going on and called police. Officers arrived and after investigating, arrested the armed man.

Daniel Vaughan Nahmabin, 56, was held pending a bail hearing on charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police have not stated if they are still looking for another suspect in connection with the incident.
