Unconscious driver charged with trafficking fentanyl

A 22-year-old Hamilton man is facing drug trafficking charges after a man was found slumped over the steering wheel of a car near East Street and London Road.

Sarnia police were called to the area around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a running vehicle stopped for several sets of stop lights.

Officers blocked the vehicle with their cruisers and were able to wake up the driver by banging on the window.

The suspect allegedly tried to drive away and struck a cruiser.

An officer broke the drivers' side window and put the vehicle in park.

Police allegedly found a large quantity of suspected pre-packaged fentanyl along with a quantity of cash on the passenger side seat.

Neil Joseph Hagan is charged with possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and breach of probation.

He was being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
