Former Sears store reno bolsters June building stats

A $1.6 million permit for the renovation of the former Sears store bolstered Sarnia's June building stats.

The renovations are in preparation for a new Marshalls/HomeSense store and two other unoccupied commercial retail units at 1380 London Rd.

The biggest permit last month was for $2.7 million for a new modular trailer complex for construction tradespeople at Imperial Oil.

The permit for the Tricar Group's $31 million waterfront apartment tower at 275 Front St. N is still pending at city hall.

The number of floors and units in the high-rise to be built on the old Sarnia Gazette property on the west side of the street remain under review.

In all, 54 permits were issued in June with a total value of nearly $8 million.

The year-to-date total at the halfway mark is $37.7 million, about $3 million ahead of 2018's pace.

There were only four permits for single-family homes in June for a six-month total of 29, compared to 47 last year.
