United minister uncontested NDP nominee in Sarnia-Lambton

The minister of Dunlop United Church is set to claim the NDP nomination in Sarnia-Lambton in this fall's federal election.

Riding Association President Elleke Belet said 36-year-old Adam Kilner is the uncontested nominee.

"He's just an outstanding guy," said Belet. "He was our top pick when we sat down for the candidate search committee and we were so thrilled that he wanted to be included in this. He took part in the vetting process and we're so excited that we can get the ball rolling, knocking on doors and talking to voters in the upcoming months."

She said Kilner is very active in the community.

"He's part of the Kiwanis, he's a Big Brother, he part of the Sarnia Pride and Transgender Association -- working on their board -- as well as the Sarnia Intersectional Feminist Network."

Belet said Kilner's candidacy will be made official Thursday, July 25.

A nomination meeting is being held at 7 p.m. at The Story at 179 Christina St. N.

Conservative Marilyn Gladu is seeking re-election October 21, while Peter Smith is running for the Green Party, Carmen Lemieux for the Liberals and Brian Everaert is the candidate for the People's Party.
