Resurgent Lambton Mall fuels July building activity

One permit for renovations at Lambton Mall accounted for nearly half of the total estimated value of all permits issued in Sarnia in July.

The $3.5 million permit for 1380 London Rd. is for renovations to the former Tepperman's space, and for other parts of the mall around Pet Value.

City hall issued 45 permits valued at nearly $7.4 million in July, bringing the year-to-date total to just over $45 million, which is right on pace with 2018.

A major permit, however, for $31 million remains under review at city hall and could be issued in August.  Discussions were ongoing about the number of floors and units in the Tricar Group's new waterfront apartment tower to be built at 275 Front St. N.

Permits for single-family homes continue to lag well behind last year's numbers.  Just four were issued in July for a seven month total of 33, compared to 58 in 2018.
