More delays at Great Lakes Secondary School

Students at Great Lakes Secondary school will have to pack their own lunches for the first few weeks of class.

Lambton-Kent District School Board Superintendent Brian McKay said cafeteria renovations at the Murphy Road site aren't done yet.

"The food service area won't be ready for the start of school," said McKay. "We're still doing work on the kitchen, but we're looking to open that up in late September."

McKay said work is ongoing on a number of classrooms, but that isn't expected to have an impact on learning.

It was previously announced that the new addition, including the auditorium theatre, washrooms, and Indigenous partner space isn't finished.

That portion is expected to be wrapped up before Christmas.

The education ministry provided $10.3 million towards the $25 million project.
