There are some significant changes at the Lambton College campus as students and staff return to class this week.
Director of Facilities Management Brent Thomas said entry gatehouses have been removed with the introduction of a new licence plate recognition system.
Finishing touches are made to the Lambton College parking lot as classes resume.
He said drivers are asked to register for a virtual parking pass and pay it online, or at a kiosk on campus.
"A kiosk is in place at each of the entrances closest to the parking lot, or if students, or employees, or other patrons wish to pay online, they can do so off their mobile device," said Thomas.
He said the guards who were originally stationed in the parking buildings have been redeployed as foot patrol.
"We have one guard who travels around in a small Kubota reading licence plates and we have two other parking service providers who walk around on foot, checking cars and also providing customer service."
The main parking lots have been reconfigured to accommodate two-way traffic and ease the flow.
"We've widened all sidewalks along the east side of the lots closest to the college and arena, sidewalks for pedestrians to safely access most westerly parking lots have been installed, new LED lighting is being installed along lots and walkways, surveillance cameras and duress stations are also being included in the project to enhance safety on campus," said Thomas.
Thomas said one parking lot remains closed for contractors to stage equipment as they complete work across from the pedestrian footbridge and sidewalks in that area.
The Sarnia Transit bus stop has also been relocated to the east side of the college.
